wheel bearing shims

In the near future, I will be replacing the front wheel bearings on my wire
wheel B, and I've been looking for information on getting them shimmed
properly.  All that my Haynes manual says is that the endfloat of the
bearings must be correct, but doesn't tell me how to check it.  (Typical
for those books)  Is there a webpage somewhere that has instructions for
this?  Thanks in advance.
