Hello list,

First, please excuse my replying to Jason regarding VW's on the list. It
was a display of defensiveness which would have been best left off line. It
was one of those moments where you push the send button then want to yank
the network cable before the electrons can finish running down it. Sorry.

But the real question is this:

I was in the garage tuning up the '74 B this weekend. When I rebuilt it,
the 25D distributor was shot and I couldn't locate a good replacement, so I
went with a brand new 45D. I was in the Haynes looking for a dwell setting,
and found that while the 25D should be 60 degrees, the 45D only wants 51.
For the life of me I can't figure out why the two would be different. In
fact, wouldn't the coil be the determining factor for the required dwell
setting?

Would anyone mind educating me?

Thanks for your help and patience,

Matt Kulka
