All right,
Time for all the info I have. This began happening after I taught one of
my friends how to drive a stick shift, so it had been started and killed
about 4 times. The engine was warm, 120 degrees on the gauge. Like I
said, it came between cylinder firings and was about 3/4 as loud as the
engine. It was not a backfire, I'm sure, but I think it might have
something to do with the valves. It sounded bad. I did not like this
sound. The car did not drip anything on the ground for me. If that
helps, then great, if not, I'll just have to bring it to a club meeting.

pulling
my MGA back into the garage when I noticed a strange popping noise, NOT a
backfire, coming sort of between cylinder firings. It was about 3/4 the
volume of the engine running, and seemed to be coming from the engine.

Well Parker, which one of the 135 common popping sounds was it? Or maybe
it was one of the other 700 less common noises an MG is capable of
generating. You have to be real intimate with these things. I'm afraid
you will need to give us greater detail, like if it felt good for
instance,
or if it just peaked your curiosity. Perhaps it was just expressing its
appreciation for the TLC you were administering. Did it leave anything
on
the pavement for you, other than the normal oil and coolant drips?
Appearantly it still likes you, because if it was really P.O.'d it
wouldn't
start.
