A product called Goof Off is very good at removing glue and tape residue 
and is commonly available. It comes in a small can similar to lighter 
fluid, which, by the way, is equally good at this sort of thing and 
doesn't seem to harm paint, either. I suspect Goof Off is really lighter 
fluid, or at least very similar (possibly less flammable?).
