I'd be checking the early gearboxes out to make sure they are okay, then I'd
be using one of them for sure. The early gearboxes are a delight to drive,
smooth shifting, and have that just right, slightly vintage feel. Unless you
are completely ham fisted, the early gearbox is plenty strong enough. Enjoy
the car for what it was intended to be.
