Australians are right into abbreviating ANYTHING (someone said something
about "lingual laziness"!).

Jap, Brit or Pom, Yank (for *all* of the USA), Aussie or Aus

Nothing disparaging about any of it (it is all in your facial expression
when you say it, though, just like when you call someone an "old
bastard", which can be a sincere form of compliment :-)
