Hi Doug
I don't think you really need to rebuild anything. Just disassemble,
clean, and re-grease the wiper gearbox and the 2 wheelboxes, and I bet
your wipers will snap back to life; or rather, to that sluggish,
zombie-like state of slow motion that is their normal operating
condition. Which actually does work for typical No. California rainfall
(except when subjected to SUV roostertails) , but is probably inadequate
for, say, the Olympic peninsula, Gulf Coast, tropical monsoons, Outer
Hebrides, etc.
If you live in one of the above-named regions you might consider
upgrading. But I don't really have any info on compatibility.
Speaking from experience, on my 66 the gearbox was full of congealed
grease with the consistency of candle wax. Once cleaned and re-greased,
the wipers sprang back into action with all the unrestrained ferocity of
a sleepy basset hound. So give it a try.
