Dear List, I am new to this list, but have been on the spridget and triumph
list for a while. I am considering buying a 61 MG 4 door car this weekend.
I assume it's a Farina Magnette. The elderly lady I talked to about the car
wasn't very clear about the model. All the reading I've done on the net
indicates a Farina Magnette MK 3. I currently own a 74 Midget, and a 71
TR6, so I'm not new to LBCs. Both my kids learned to drive in a 70 MGB,
which do to circumstances at the time I had to sell.
Now the questions, are parts available for the Magnette? The lady I talked
to said she had a mechanic come to do some work on the car and he stole the
carburetors. (Just repeating what I was told.) Don't know if the manifold
and linkage went as well. She is only asking $500 for the car and she said
it is in good condition. Any ideas how much carbs, linkage and manifold
will cost me?
Also, what is the difference between a HD4 and HS4 carb? If I remember
right, the MGB used the HS4 carbs. I currently have a spare set of HS2
carbs and manifold for my midget. I know these are smaller, but might the
carbs work until I can get the right carbs?
