Oh?  I dunno about the 5-main engines, but I just pulled the cam out of my
3-main 1500 engine without removing the pan or the oil pump.  I did remove
the distributor drive gear, but not the oil pump drive.  Otherwise the cam
was a close pass above the air pan ahead of the radiator, and the oil
cooler also had to move out of the way but didn't need to have the hoses
unhooked.
