  I've never done it and I've built many angines.  Some will tell you
that disaster awaits if you don't.  I've been lucky for 40+ years, I
guess. ;^)  My friend Fisher Jones packs 'em full of petroleum jelly.
  I spin the engine on the starter until the oil pressure comes up, then
fire it.
