Hi, Herb.

The sender ring is just a big bayonet fitting-same principle as a cap-type
car light bulb.

WITH THE TANK EMPTY, just tap it round anti (counter?) clockwise with a
medium hammer and drift. Make sure you have a new sender ring before you
start because you'll certainly break off at least one of the little 'ears'.
To replace, simply tap the new ring in-you'll see how the fitting in the
tank only allows it to go so far.

BTW, If you want to be ultra-safe, use a brass drifit
