Sounds like a bad connection on the battery terminals which is fairly 
common. Get a battery terminal cleaner and clean the connectors and 
terminals. This is routine maintenance that you should probably due at 
least once every six months.

Another symptom will be a warm terminal where the actual bad connection is 
right after you try to start the car.

The starter, being metal, will be grounded to the engine, which in turn, 
should have grounds to the chassis (at the engine mount, you should have a 
ground cable).
