Sorry for the late input--I was on vacation.

The reason for using non-detergent is exactly what is said about.  Detergent 
oils keep contaminants in suspension so deposits don't build up.  However, as 
I was told decades ago, the tranny wants the contaminants to sink to the 
bottom and doesn't want them continually recirculated throughout the gearing. 
 The nasty stuff gets sucked up by the strainer and stays out of the system.
