  Glad you found the problem.  One other re: the voltage stabilizer. 
When I bought the thing the temp and fuel guages read high.  I found out
by running out of gas! ;^)  I found out by trial and error that the
v-stab was installed upside down in my car. The thing doesn't work
unless it's upright.  How 'bout that?
