Brake caliper rebuild

Yet another question in preparation for my brake system rebuild...

The brake caliper on the B has two sides each holding a piston. The two
sides are bolted together and to replace the seals it appears you need to
unbolt the outer side and work one side at a time (off the car). The Haynes
manual makes no mention of this. Am I missing something? How would one press
in the new seal, etc with the two sides still joined? Thanks...
