Interesting to see my name pop up on the list (well the digest version at
least). I've been pretty quiet this winter on all the lists, between
relocating to NY, starting the restoration of the 1920 house I just
purchased, and working 60 hours a week. The V8 is under a tarp in the back
yard for the next couple of months. Hopefully, I've replied to everyone's
emails requesting info on the V8 conversion, if I haven't, my apologies.

And for the record, during the restoration I was very much a single man.
Although, the current girlfriend has a "5 year plan" :-(

The costs listed on that page do not include any labor. They also do not
include things such as gauges, I've replaced the stock Tach with an
Autometer, and a new programmable Autometer Speedo (a really neat gauge,
but about $200 with the sender). I think the guages look very nice, and
from a distance are hard to tell apart from the stock gauges, black with a
chrome bezel. Looking back over the costs listed, I don't see how anyone
could do a V8 conversion much cheaper, although I see lots of places to
spend A LOT more money.

For those who have asked (Al, my apologies for not getting back to you
earlier). The wheels on my car are for a 90 Honda Accord, 14x6. Purchased
from Tire Rack. The fit is pretty good, but these 14" alloys barely clear
the tie-rod ends. I'm sure I'm not even getting a 1/4" clearance. I would
buy the 15" wheels if I had it to do over again to gain the extra clearance.
I'm getting some tire rub while autocrossing, but I think it is do the
deflection of the tires more than anything. The Firestone Firehawks, seem to
be pretty soft as far as sidewall deflection is concerned.

I did have a few hundred very successful miles on the V8 last fall,
everything ran very well. My plan is to work on the car in April and get it
ready to race a full season as part of the EMRA. Still need new poly
bushings, autopower racing roll bar, etc. They seem to be a very "come and
drive" type of organization, and it will give me some actual track time.
Anyone on the list race with the EMRA?

Glenn Wakefield put up a web page showing the cost of his V8 conversion. I
did't look closely (I don't want to know) but I think
his cost excludes labor. All I have to say is if Glenn posts it on the
internet he must not have a wife!
