No, "gage" isn't generally acceptable for "gauge" in America either. What I
meant was that was the way I *wish* it was spelled. Phonetically easier:
"g" + "age" = "gage" like on Sesame Street ;-).

Sorry, my bad. I wasn't very clear there.
