I had a similar problem with a GM alt w/built in reg. many years ago. Alt
tested good but eventually I changed it anyhow and the battery discharge
problem went away. Maybe the VR problem is intermittant or just does not
appear during testing alt. output.
Another time I traced similar symptoms to a trunk light that didn't shut off
when the trunk was closed.
Lots-a-luck climbing into an MGB trunk. I'm sure I would never fit.
