The engine rattles badly above about 3krpm. Big ends I think. I was thinking
about adding, say 1L of gear oil to the engine oil to thicken things up a
bit. I know this is a trick which people do when selling old cars to make
them sound better, but if all the engine clearances are worn then surely a
thicker oil is required to maintain pressure? Anyone know if this is a good
or bad idea?

Also, I am thinking of fitting electronic ignition very soon. I don't trust
points. The Luminition Magnetronix system is popular for the Lucas dizzys. I
think I'll buy one. I am running an Aldon Ignitor on the mini. The two
systems are very similar, both fitting completly under the dizzy cap. I
think the dizzy on the MG (BGT 1978) is a Lucas 45D4. I think the 43D4 is
the one without vac-adv.
