Dynamat makes two products that Moss offers. The asphalt based sound
deadening mats are designed to reduce body panel vibration by adding mass to
the panel and lower resonance frequencies such that the panel is not excited
by the vibration forcing functions from the engine and road. The Dynamat
hood liner is a foam material that does absorb sound and reduces the amount
of reflected sound waves. The silver lining of the hood liner is to reflect
heat. So, depending on which Dynamat product you are talking about, mass is
used to reduce the vibration. Hope this clarifies somewhat. Quiet motoring
to all and to all a good night.
