It is unlike that it is the electronic ignition.  Normally they are go nogo.
I would look at the following?

1.  If you have the orginal ZS carb, check the diaphragm.  If it is torn you
will have the problem.

2.  Check the fuel pump- make sure that it is pumping propoerly
