When asking about the lack of seatbelts in school buses I was once told that
buses in general and school buses in particular are designed so that the
seat spaces are compartmentalized. This (except in case of rollover, of
course!) is suppose to contain the person in their space and be more
effective than a seatbelt if properly designed and executed. Huh.

On that note I was more than a little surprised to hear that all the new
buses our school district bought this year have seat belts, and the students
are required to wear them.

I guess you change your tune as it suits you.
