You may get a different answer from everyone you ask.  But I'll give you
my opinion, having done this research myself recently.

.001" per diameter of the bearing.  So a 2.12" MGB main would need
.002"+ clearance; the big end bearing is 1.87", so the clearance should
be .002"-. 

End float should be .002 to .003".

I've 
torn down the donor engine and find what seems like very little wear.
The main journals measure .0005" to .0007" under while rod journals
measure 
.0007" to .001" under.
