Was dismantling my rear bumper assembly today and when I removed the
license plate lights, I noticed a difference. On one side, I'll call it "A"
, the lens (the glass dome, not the bulb) has a bluish tint to it, the "B"
side is clear and has a small round mold seam at its apex. I cleaned A
first and was surprised when I got to B. After I noticed the difference, I
picked up both chrome covers and the A side is slightly heavier. Also,
when I drop the chrome pieces on a table top (the ol' Silver Dollar test),
I notice B has a more tinny sound than A.
My experience with old glass is that older glass often has a blue tint,
while new stuff is often more clear. This and the cheaper feel of the
chrome piece leads me to think that part B is actually an aftermarket part.
All that said:
1. Am I correct on this, or do I have them reversed? Or am I just nuts?
2. If I show this car (not a trailer queen, but a showable concours Sunday
driver), will this color difference make a hill of beans or not? I've
never shown anything, so I have no idea what a judge looks for.
3. Have any of you bought this part recently from the aftermarket guys, and
if so, is yours clear or bluish?
