Yeah, that little hole would match up with the 'horn' on the SU covers
(how effectively, I don't know, though) but when you go and mess things
up like I did by removing the standard SU filters for a groovy looking
PiperCross filter you gotta do something about it. And I did :-)
I am amazed that I see many cars with fancy new aftermarket filter
setups like mine - just sucking in the superheated air from right above
the extractors/header or simply the exhaust pipe as it runs down from
under the carbies. I thought about it and it was obvious - I just didn't
DO anything about it. And when I did, I am glad that I had a comparison
of before and after, because I might not have believed it otherwise.
$20 and that silly situation is rectified. Quite a few bucks more and
you have something more sophisticated, but also something that requires
a little more tuning thought and effort, as you say.

... and that is my thought - hence no actual cold-air box (but I

from the grill). I was listening to my fellow club member who built his
own fuel-injection system for his racing 'B and my mind fuzzed over a
bit at the decisions he was making about the metering of the air and
fuel and the programming of his computer - plus the decisions the
computer made on its own.
Urrrk - computers? Now that is NOT a 'B :-)
