This sentiment seems to be fairly widespread, and I haven't dropped the
idea (yet). So far at least we haven't been cut off from e-mail service,
so I suppose it's time to ask him a few more questions.
I'm not sure he needs everything that we might percive. I have an idea
that his car may have been recently painted and is not quite fully
reassembled yet. Some of the parts mentioned may not actually be missing,
just not back on the car yet. So far I only get the message that it was
assembled enough for a test drive. Things like windscreen grab handles,
cockpit trim rails, and a few bits out of the dash might already be in his
posession.
I'm also not so sure that money is such a biig issue. He did say that he
paid $8000 for the car, and I would guess that this was not the last of his
worldly posessions. Perhaps he is not what we think of as the "average"
Cuban. The fact that he found the crankshaft "out of the earth" and
substituted Lada pistons is confirmation of what we already knew, that
certain parts are hard to come by in Cuba. But I'm sure we don't need to
send him everything that is not showing in the current pictures.
I will ask him what he needs, and also if he can suggest a reasonable
"portal" for getting a package to him.
