I wonder if this is really true?-

Note that the  Standard Vanguard was first produced in 1947

Part of the story about Ferguson tractors, seems to indicate that the engine
was either in existence or development for the Standard Vanguard, rather
than for the Fergie tractor.  Harry Ferguson had a tractor and was looking
around for an engine, found one at Standard.
