When it won't start you need to put a timing light on the coil lead and each
plug lead and make sure it is flashing when it should.  If you have a 12v
light with an inductive pickup rather than the in-line type it will show up
bad plugs as well, but in this case I think it is going to be related to the
coil, cap or rotor rather than plugs.  Usually coils fail when hot, but the
earlier coils where the spades are riveted on have a known failure mode
where the rivets loosen and make a bad connection.  You car would have had
one of these originally.  It could also be loose connections, does the
ignition warning light glow when it won't start?  If it having a good patch
and running check the dwell.
