Hi List: Over the years, we all develop simple solutions for certain jobs we
need to do with our LBC's. (Little British Cars is only one definition.)
The information below is given humbly and without bragging.
I always want to reuse the original metal brake and fuel lines, but most of
the time they are really dirty or rusty. ( there is no way I could new ones to
look like the originals.)
If they are not bent or rusted beyond repair, here is what I do.
Wrap a hand size piece of 80-120 aluminum oxide cloth and rub the pipe until
the dirt or rust comes off. The end nuts I usually am able to polish shiny
clean with my wire wheel on my bench motor.
Then, when all clean, I tape over the ends and spray the lines with clear
lacquer or equal. After it dries the pipes seem to hold up very well.
I have the original lines on my 1962 Mark 2 Jag that I cleaned three years
ago and they look great.
So, give it a try if you don't want to bend the new ones.
Let's start a habit of passing on these generic tips. I would love to read
any others.
