Tim,
   Checking all the metal lines and replacing all the rubber lines will
probably do the job for you.  Try that and see if the pump pumps up as
quickly as the one on your friend's car. 
   There is another possible air leak--in the base of the pump itself if
the screws are loose and air can get past the gasket. Unlikely, but
possible.
