Okay guys! Here's some GREAT news that us MG enthusiasts should relish.

The following is a snip of an article that I found this morning in the
Atlanta Journal-Constitution fishrapper. Since I now own a Vette (still an
MG lover too), I was looking to see how the Corvettes did in qualifying at
Road Atlanta and low and behold, I (unexpectedly to say the least) found
this!

Weaver Puts MG back at the Head of the Line
By Kent Mitchell

In a finish more like a science fiction time warp than a 21st century
racing, the unofficial pole sitter for today's Grand Prix of Atlanta at Road
Atlanta is an MG.

Young people might not even recognize the name MG, a major brand until the
1960s, but Saturday's run by James Weaver of Wiltshire, England in the
turbo-charged four-cylinder LMP 675 might be the start of a comeback.

Weaver drove his Dyson Racing Lola EX257/AER MG to the fastest lap Saturday,
negotiating the 2.54-mile road racing course in 1:13.748 seconds (123.990
mph) and watching anxiously as Sebring winner Frank Biela missed beating the
time by 'one-hundredth of a second in an Audi R8

If there' had been more than two or three laps left, times might have been
down for all of us, Weaver said when asked if he was worried about Biela
beating him.

It was. only a practice run when Weaver did it but the time was good for the
No. 1 starting position after qualifying was rained out.

And although it won't go down in road racing history because' it wasn't an
official qualifying session, fans, will know an MG started first for the
first time possibly since the first Sebring race in 1953 and it happened in
Atlanta.

Although road racers run in the rain, officials decided not to hold
qualifying runs in the rain and used times from Saturday's two practice
sessions to set today's starting grid.

The Dyson MG with Weaver and Butch Leitzlnger of Rebersburg, Pa., will lead
the pack. Biela and Marco Werner had the top LMP 900 qualifier, second
overall, with a time of 1:13.753.

Sebring winners Ron Fellows of Canada and Johnny O'Connell of Flowery Branch
were top GTS qualifiers, in theirCorvetteRacingC5-R (1:20.917), and the top
GT qualifier was an Alex Job Racing Porsche 911 GT3RS driven by Germans Timo
Bernhard anf Jorg Bermeister (1:24:323).
