It sounds a lot like a stuck float, but the overflow would be dumping
into the carbon canister via the overflow collector. When the condition
repeats itself, pull the hose off the collector and see if there isn't a
little fuel spilling (watch for overflow onto the exhaust!). Actually,
you can pull the hose over by the carbon canister to be safer. If that
hose is dry, you may be able to start looking at other causes.
