MGA Radiator Question

I just removed the radiator from my 1960 MGA to replace the water pump and
found that the side brackets of the radiator (which contain the mounting
flanges to bolt it onto the car) are not connected at the bottom of the
radiator.

I can't tell if they were originally brazed onto the radiator or if they are
supposed to be "loose".

Can someone give me some advise on what is correct?
