Tapered square holes for oil plugs I thought were pretty common? Maybe just
in the UK? You can pick up a tool to fit a range of oil plugs at any car
parts store here - mine looks a bit like a dog bone, with 3 or 4 bits
sticking out of each end to fit different sized drain plugs.
