Remove distributor and the base clamp.  Also remove one large flat 
head screw and remove the base mount casting from the engine 
block.  If it is stuck, tap on one of the ears to rotate it left and 
right  to loosen it.  Once the flanged casting has been removed, a 
long fine threaded (5/16-24) bolt is the tool to extract the drive 
gear.  A rocker shaft pedestal stud works well.

Very easy removal if you use a slide hammer.
