Clausager doesn't date cars on the body or commission numbers, issue and
recording of these by the factory was patchy in any case. However he does
show a picture of a commission plate with the number 'G.23 N. 014607 F.' on
a 1969 Coventry-built roadster. In your number the D instead of the N
denotes a GT instead of a roadster, and the P instead of the F denotes
Swindon built roadsters 1969-70, and GTs 1965-70. Unlike the chassis
numbers different series of numbers were used for GTs to roadsters, so
although the numbers are quite close it doesn't necessarily follow that they
were built at a close point in time, and the P suffix gives quite a broad
band. However looking at the production numbers year by year 13439 dates it
to about 1/3rd the way through 1967, and make it a Mk1. The fly in the
ointment is that the GT also had its own body number series, and this is
much bigger than the commission number, making it potentially quite a bit
later than a 67 Mk1, like a mid 68 Mk2. So the question is, is it a Mk1
with things like single-speed wipers, no roof light, washer bottle on the
firewall, or a Mk2 with 2-speed wipers, roof light, and washer bottle by the
radiator?
