I heard (recently, here on the MG list I think) of a lid cracking. I
think it was an H-4 carb on an MGA Perhaps due to over-tightening?
Have you examined the lid carefully for a crack?
I've seen used carbs sell for a lot less (on eBay) than what you
quoted for a new lid. Would that be a viable option?
