Paul,

When I had a US-spec '74 B, the system would sometimes prevent the car
from starting. I am fairly sure that the system acted as an interlock
with the starter circuit. The simplest way to disable it was to
disconnect the sensors under the seats (IIRC there was one under BOTH
seats). However, in my car, the occasional bad connection on the
system would require me to put my hand behind the dash and wiggle the
connections until the car would start.

I think the buzzers came later, when the interlock was removed.
