CR makes a good point about switches. In *my* experience (he types
laughingly) any time the OD starts going I take a look at the alternator.

When I pulled the OD out of the crashed primrose, I bought all the
rebuild parts from Moss and installed them (it had been flaking out in
the prim). When I put it into the redcar it worked beautifully. Crisp
and solid.

A little while after installation it started having difficulty engaging
at times and then started dropping out at speed. Then died completely. I
immediately blamed the rebuild parts, but then I had to jump the battery
at work. Turned out my alt connection was bad and the + feed had slowly
started to break strands one by one. I had done an alternator conversion
on the redcar ('67) and my soldering job wasn't a good one. What was
happening was that the OD kept getting full voltage but the amperage was
losing ground, no pun intended. Fixed the + feed connection and
miraculously the OD came back to life. Bucks saved.
