If you just want a spare 'just in case' I would consider picking up a generic 
cube electric pump. Small size can be carried easily,
and they are very easy to install.

Ed,

I bought my MGB GT 5 years ago, the current fuel pump runs fine but I
do not know how old it is.

I am planning to drive to MG 2011 in June in Reno, over 3,000 miles
round trip, and I thought I might buy a spare fuel pump for the trip,
or replace it for peace of mind.
