Great story Max, if a little terrifying. Thanks for sharing it. Any
dealing with the DMV is a crap shoot. Sometimes flawless. Other times
incalculable obscurity.

Colin Campbell in his landmark book 'The Sports Car Engine: It's tuning
and modification', says always to measure fuel pump delivery volume and
pressure first. So Charley, you're right on target!

https://www.amazon.com/sports-car-engine-tuning-modification/dp/0837600448/ref=mp_s_a_1_fkmrnull_1?keywords=colin+campbell+the+sports+car+engine&qid=1556061473&s=gateway&sr=8-1-fkmrnull

The positive earth fuel pump in my TD failed as well. I too replaced it
with an SU electronic pump. No problem since. However, when the (appearance
of) originality isn't required, a quite reliable 2-3 psi pump with adequate
volume, is available at a quarter the price of the SU. Its a OEM pump for
an early carbed Honda Civic! And that's what's in my '73 E-Type. Yes,
adequate volume for that big V12 at full song. Rockauto stocks them.

New tires at correct pressure are such a treat! I have new tires on
newly powder-coated TR6 wheels, but they've never made a turn under power.
Soon though, I hope.

I haven't looked at the forecast, as if that was any clue, but after the
next couple of days we may get that window in the weather!

Rick, down the road from Charley
