Is it known to be running hot because the gauge or a thermometer says so=
?=20
In two tanks or running, assume 500 miles, the loss of two quarts is exc=
essive, but you should not be boiling off that much even if the cap is rated=
 below 10 psi. =20
The look of that cap suggests corrosion and dirt in the engine and radiat=
or. Has the antifreeze protection been maintained in the last few years, th=
e AF being changed every other year?
You might consider driving around with the cap loose until engine is full=
y warmed, then putting a kitchen thermometer into the water. Also, an infra=
-red thermometer used on the thermostat housing and in a pattern around the r=
adiator will tell you something. =20
=46rom look of the cap, I suspect that there is sediment in the system a=
nd that radiator is partly blocked. Do this testing then we can evaluate the=
 problem better.

the simplest things first, I removed the radiator cap and found what you se=
e in the picture. Add to that it is a 7 psi cap. My car is a 1969 which re=
quires a 10 psi cap. After running out two tanks of gas it took half a 50/5=
0 mix antifreeze container to fill the system back up. Checking the timing i=
s next.
