Sounds like a fuel problem. The Edelbrock 1404 is a simple carburetor to wo=
rk on as it is a copy of the Carter AFB carb used since the 60=E2=80=99s. I=
s your choke set properly when cold and hot? The AFB used a mechanical fue=
l pump- make sure that facet pump you=E2=80=99re using has the correct fuel p=
ressure for the AFB. Also check your vacuum. Is the vacuum reading steady o=
r is the gauge needle fluctuating back and forth? You may have a vacuum le=
ak affecting fuel mixture. When the engine is cold and the choke is on you h=
ave a rich mixture allowing the engine to run poorly. Once the choke opens t=
he mixture goes lean due to the vacuum leak possibly leading to your motor s=

Thinking it might be an electrical issue, I replaced the plugs, plug wires,=
