If you have the same Rover 5 speed as used in the SD1, the TR7&8, and
some mid 80's jags, the factory did go to a recommendation of ATF after
having problems with the first motion shaft bearing.  Also went to a
larger bearing during the 1980 production.  Lube is supposed to be
pushed to the front by a gear pump(fiber gears!) in the rear of the
tranny.  Pump tends to tear up easily as metal chunks pass through.  The 
TR8 guys seem to believe in a GM synchro fluid.  I used Redline NS
successfully, but have heard complaints about cold weather shifting.
