So I thought I'd ask -- does someone do this already? Do you know someone
who
would do it? Given that the market unquestionably would be small, I would
expect a high price, but I might be willing to subsidize a prototype, if
someone wants to try it.

Does the roof of the sedan and the roof of the tourer follow the same line?
In particular, are the windows/tops of the doors the same?

I would think you could apply some sort of release to a sedan roof, even a
few layers of masking tape, and lay up some fiberglass cloth right on the sedan
roof. Maybe lay in a few strips of plywood for stiffening, then just peel
it off, and upholster the top with some foam and canvas or vynil to resemple a
 soft top.

Sounds fairly simple, but then I've never done anything like this. If you
had a sacrificial sedan you could drill some holes and bolt a perimiter of
plywood strips aound the edge and after these were fiberglassed in it would
give
you something to staple the upholstery to.

What do you suppose the market would be 10? 20? 500?
