Well its a 248 engine (from the engine number by the distributor) and its a
long wheelbase 1/2 ton (by the model 102 on the door post). But it's
probably not the original engine as that would have been a 228, according to
my owners manual.  But the dealers in those days probably weren't above
dropping a bigger engine if that's what the buyer wanted. The only
difference in the two is 5/32" bigger bore in the 248; externally the are
identical.

Unfortunately the GMC data plates don't provide build date as does
Chevrolet. I don't know the significance of the "S" in the chassis number,
but my 51 shortbed half-ton has a "P" ; I always assumed this stood for
"Pontiac" (Michigan)
