Ha! I've been here recently. Access to the back of the hinge is via the
inside of the cab- remove what another lister is calling the kick-panels.
Once there, you should find (at least on my truck) that the nuts are
actually captive rectangular blocks of steel with a threaded hole cut in
them. These, are secured to the cab by sheet-metal tabs, which almost
certainly are what's failed in your case.

The lower bolt, on the lower hinge will certainly be the hardest to get to-
I hope this is one that has come out for you. The others are all pretty
accessible from the kick-panel access.

There are two bolts (one on each hinge) deep in the recesses. So, there are
actually 6 bolts per door. The back of the top one will require imitating a
contortionist, reaching up through the wheel-well in behind the front
fender. Definitely a two person operation if the nut/block is spinning.
The lower is quite easy to get to.

Good luck-
Ryan (55 2nd, Colorado)

Hello again!!!

I'm doing some major bodywork to my 57 GMC, and I went to remove the doors,
4 bolts per door, no problem right? Well, 2 of the bolts came out, the
other two just spin. Did I do something wrong, or is everything just rusted

out behind the hinge? What do I do now? I cant seem to gain any access to
the back of it. Should I just cut the things off? Is there something I'm
missing. I'm not even half as old as this thing is, and I'm a little green
at this oletrucks stuff so any help is greatly appreciated!!! Thanks!!!
