Sorry for the lack of information.

The truck is a half ton with a semi-floating rearend with 3.90:1 gears
(standard equipment).

Not my lucky year either. Is your truck a 3/4 ton? Don't know those Canadian
model #'s. They have
large lock nuts on brake hubs that may work loose and will allow axle, hub,
and wheel to pull from
truck as one piece. Do you have 8 bolts holding axle onto hub sticking out
past wheel? This is a
floating axle, no c-clips on these. The two lock nuts and lock washer are
under the axle end I
mentioned. Some caps come off and others are built right on the axle. If
you've messed up the
threads on spindle on truck, bad news. Backing plate shouldn't be too hard
to find. Get a shop
manual for your years it will have all this repair under brake section.
