This may not be of help, but it may help others. I used standard 24 ft trusses
when I built my garage. I used a footing and 4 ft foundation walls. I let the
wall come up about 13" above the floor, except where the entry door and garage
door are. This way I was able to use standard precut studs, etc on the walls.
I put a header clear across the front of the garage. I put my entry door
framing right up next to the side wall. I cut and glued 2x8s and 2x4s together
to form a short wall/post between the entry door and 8x18 ft garage door. I
set a bolt in the concrete and set the short wall/post over it. The short
wall/post was made to have a hole for the bolt. I only used a 32" door for my
entry door. With a car and a pickup truck in the garage, there is at least 4
feet of usable space on the entry door side and 2 feet on the other side. I
assumed that if something was too wide to get through it I could open up the
large door. I am well pleased with this. I can drive in the middle of the
garage door opening and have plenty of room to work around a car or truck. My
garage is 24x44 with the back half flat and smooth. Shop area. And the front
half broom finished and slopes to a center drain.
