Cleaning rags was great - the next question is about salvaging a used parts
washer. I recently acquired a used parts washer and discovered under the
years of goo accumulated at the bottom a wire mesh pad. Calling it a mesh
pad might be misleading - it was more like a mess of fine strands of wire
(brillo pad comes to mind) embedded with years of grundge and waste oil. It
is about two to three inches thick and covers the entire bottom of the
washer tank.

The original owner said that this was a filter but he had not cleaned it
since 1987. To clean it now would create a local ecological disaster! And
the question is:

Do you really need anykind of a filter on the bottom of a washer tank? What
purpose does it serve - or if you really want to filter your cleaning fluid
can you use some other form of filter?

Thanks again...
